Integrated Pest Management and other measures to protect biodiversity on agricultural farms

In coordination with the Coop supermarket chain (Switzerland), with the facilitation of the Lake Constance Foundation, and in coordination with the agro-export company NicoVerde, an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) training program was designed and implemented for agricultural producers in the Northern Zone of Costa Rica. This initiative aimed to strengthen the resilience of production systems and promote agricultural practices that contribute to biodiversity conservation in the agricultural landscape.

The program focused on strengthening the capacities of producers associated with Coopesarapiquí R.L. and Coopepiña R.L., providing them with practical tools to improve the phytosanitary management of their farms, optimize productivity, and reduce costs through the adoption of IPM and biodiversity protection approaches. The activities carried out included field days, technical tours, and keynote lectures aimed at practical learning and the exchange of experiences among producers.

As part of its results, the program succeeded in raising awareness among at least 90 coffee and pineapple producers regarding the importance of implementing sustainable agricultural practices focused on integrated pest management and biodiversity protection, thereby contributing to the strengthening of more efficient, responsible production systems aligned with the conservation of the natural environment.
