Implementation of the Tropical Forest Protocol
This project was implemented from 2025 to 2026, with a budget of 20,000,000 colones funded by the "Second Debt-for-Nature Swap (USA – Costa Rica)" through the Asociación Costa Rica por Siempre.
The general objective of the project is to establish two permanent sample plots for measuring forest parameters to implement the forest protocol.
of the PRONAMEC in two Protected Areas (PAs), the Lomas Barbudal Biological Reserve and the Miravalles Volcano National Park, to establish a baseline and build capacity among the staff of both PAs for the creation of a robust forest monitoring program.
During the process, two multi-day workshops were held in both **Protected Areas (PAs)**, where 45 officials were trained.
to ensure they learned how to establish forest plots and collect data in accordance with the forest protocol developed for PRONAMEC under the previously mentioned ecological integrity project.
